Sankhjeeru is a fine, white mineral powder that Indian families have long used on babies during hot, humid weather. It’s soft and silky, and it absorbs sweat and moisture, which is why it has traditionally been dusted on areas that stay damp, like the neck, underarms, back and skin folds.

Why mothers use it

• Prickly heat: traditionally used to soothe the small red bumps that appear when sweat gets trapped under the skin.

How to use

1. Make sure the skin is clean and completely dry.
2. Take a small pinch on your palm first. Don’t shake it directly onto the baby.
3. Gently pat a thin layer onto the area that needs it.
4. Use once or twice a day, or after the bath, as needed.

• Keep away from the baby’s face, eyes, nose and mouth, and don’t let it become airborne near the baby.
• Don’t apply on broken, cut or oozing skin.
